Arising along the superior margin of the lateral fissure (Sylvian fissure), the frontal operculum is traced on the inferolateral surface of the frontal lobe as it caps the anterior insula. The sequence typically sweeps laterally across the cerebral convexity and then angles inferiorly, clarifying how the pars opercularis and adjacent inferior frontal gyrus sit anterior to the precentral gyrus and superior to the temporal operculum.
