Description
Centered within the lower abdomen and pelvis, the uterus sits in the midline, with the cervix projecting inferiorly toward the vaginal canal. Laterally, the uterine tubes (fallopian tubes) arch from the uterine cornua toward the ovaries, which lie posterolateral to the uterus near the lateral pelvic wall. A transparent rendering places these internal genital organs in context with the pelvic cavity while the external vulvar region is indicated superficially, including hair-bearing mons pubis and labial contours. Orientation is clear. This arrangement matters because most clinical problems in the female reproductive tract are anatomic problems first. The uterine tubes and their fimbriae are the usual site of fertilization and also the most common location for ectopic pregnancy, and a coronal-style transparency helps explain why tubal rupture presents with acute pelvic pain and hemoperitoneum rather than isolated vaginal findings.
