Description
Semi-transparent anterior full-body rendering of an adult Black woman reveals major thoracic and abdominal viscera in situ. Superiorly, the trachea descends in the midline of the neck into the thorax, with the esophagus running posterior to it before passing through the diaphragm toward the stomach in the left upper quadrant. Inferior to the stomach, loops of small intestine occupy the central abdomen, while the large intestine frames them more peripherally, with the transverse colon crossing the upper abdomen and the descending colon tracking along the left flank. Superficial breast contours remain visible over the anterior thoracic wall. Spatial continuity from airway to foregut makes this view useful for teaching cross-cavity relationships that underlie common presentations: endotracheal intubation and tracheostomy rely on midline cervical landmarks, while dysphagia and gastroesophageal reflux disease track the esophagus from the posterior mediastinum to the gastroesophageal junction.
