Distal tibial plafond dominates the frame, with its concave inferior articular surface oriented toward the talar trochlea to form the superior component of the tibiotalar (ankle) joint. Medially, the articular extension onto the medial malleolus is continuous with the plafond, while laterally the tibial margin approaches the fibular notch (incisura fibularis) that helps define the ankle mortise. The articular surface appears bounded by a sharper metaphyseal rim, with the central concavity and peripheral contours emphasized for joint congruence. Bone landmarks are easy to localize.
