Description
Centered in the anterior facial plane, the oral fissure is framed by the upper and lower lips (labium superius and labium inferius), with the vermilion border sharply separating red lip from adjacent cutaneous skin. Superiorly, the philtrum runs in the midline toward the base of the nose, terminating at the Cupid’s bow, while the labial commissures sit laterally where the upper and lower lips meet.
