Description
Hypothalamic sulcus marks the junction of thalamus and hypothalamus along the medial surface of the diencephalon, forming a subtle longitudinal groove on the lateral wall of the third ventricle. Superior to the sulcus, the thalamus presents a smoother, more convex medial contour, while inferior to it the hypothalamic region slopes toward the ventricular floor, where the tuber cinereum and infundibular area would be expected anteriorly. Running anteroposteriorly, the sulcus aligns with the interventricular foramen region anteriorly and continues toward the midbrain transition near the cerebral aqueduct posteriorly, helping the viewer separate dorsal (thalamic) from ventral (hypothalamic) territories in a single frame.
