Description

Arising from the anterior and inferior cerebellum, the vestibulocerebellum is animated as the flocculonodular lobe, with the paired flocculi positioned laterally and the nodulus centered on the inferior vermis. The sequence clarifies how the flocculus sits adjacent to the cerebellopontine angle and near the middle cerebellar peduncle, while the nodulus lies just superior to the roof of the fourth ventricle. As the camera progresses, the flocculonodular lobe is oriented against surrounding hindbrain landmarks, reinforcing its ventral relationship to the cerebellar hemispheres and its proximity to the brainstem. Clinical relevance is direct: this region is the cerebellar node most tightly coupled to vestibular input, so lesions classically produce truncal ataxia, gaze-evoked nystagmus, impaired vestibulo-ocular reflex suppression, and vertigo rather than limb dysmetria. Animated continuity helps you track the small, easily overlooked flocculus and nodulus across changing angles, which is exactly what students struggle with when correlating gross anatomy to MRI of the posterior fossa. Size matters here. Use this animation in neuroanatomy and neuroscience teaching blocks when introducing functional cerebellar divisions, and in neuroradiology or neurosurgery resources that explain posterior fossa symptoms and the cerebellopontine angle corridor where the flocculus is a consistent landmark. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
