Centered in a superior view, the right and left main bronchi enter the lung at the hila and begin their early arborization into lobar bronchi, then segmental branches that radiate laterally and posteriorly toward the pulmonary periphery. The bronchial tubes form a branching pattern that becomes progressively smaller and more numerous as they course distally, tracking the lobar anatomy of each lung base. Medial structures at the hilum sit closest to the mediastinal margin, while more distal bronchi sweep outward toward the costal surfaces. Fine branching dominates the field.
