Seen from a posterior perspective, the adult female skeleton is rendered from the occipital bone and cervical vertebrae down through the thoracic and lumbar spine to the sacrum and coccyx, with the rib cage arching laterally from the vertebral column. Scapulae lie posterolateral to the upper thorax, flanking the midline spinous processes, while the clavicles and sternum are implied anteriorly by the shoulder girdle alignment.
