Description
Semi-transparent skin reveals the complete skeletal system of a female child in upright anatomical position, with the skull and mandible superiorly, the vertebral column aligned in the midline, and the ribcage surrounding the thoracic spine. The clavicles and scapulae frame the shoulder girdle, with the humeri extending distally to the radius and ulna, then to the carpal bones, metacarpals, and phalanges as the arms rest slightly abducted. Inferiorly, the pelvis (ilium, ischium, and pubis) supports the femora, which articulate at the knees with the tibiae and fibulae and continue to the tarsals, metatarsals, and toes, making the major bones and joints readable from head to foot. Cartilage is implied at joint margins and at pediatric growth zones. Pediatric proportions matter. A child’s skeleton is not a scaled-down adult: the cranium is relatively large, the pelvis is narrower, and many regions still reflect ongoing ossification and the presence of physes (growth plates) that drive longitudinal growth and create predictable weak points under load.
