Description
Declive of the cerebellar vermis occupies the superior midline in this posterior view, forming the sloping posterior component of the monticulus immediately caudal to the culmen. Leaf-like cerebellar folia run transversely across the vermis and continue laterally onto the cerebellar hemispheres, while the primary fissure cuts a distinct groove at the inferior margin of the declive. Superior lies toward the tentorial surface, inferior toward the posterior cerebellar margin, with the vermis remaining strictly medial between paired hemispheric cortices. Neuroanatomy teaching often treats the declive as a naming detail, but it anchors the larger concept of cerebellar lobation, because the primary fissure is the practical boundary used to separate the anterior lobe from the posterior lobe on the superior surface, and it helps orient students when correlating gross anatomy with sagittal MR sections. Midline cerebellar pathology tends to localize by gait findings, and vermian involvement classically produces truncal ataxia out of proportion to limb dysmetria. The fixed posterior perspective makes the declive-to-primary fissure relationship easy to parse without competing brainstem or cranial nerve detail. A clean landmark.
