Description
Anterior sectional anatomy of the heart exposes the endocardium (tunica interna cordis) as a thin, smooth endothelial lining carried continuously from the atrial chambers across the ventricular cavities and onto the valve leaflets. Along the cut edges, the endocardium lies immediately deep to the myocardium, separated by only a scant subendocardial layer that blends with the fibrous skeleton at the annuli.
