Centered on the occiput in posterior anatomical position, the rounded contour of the squamous part of the occipital bone forms the inferior aspect of the calvaria, meeting the parietal bones superiorly along the lambdoid suture. The external occipital protuberance sits on the midline and is flanked laterally by the superior nuchal lines, which arc toward the mastoid region at the posterolateral skull base. Inferiorly, the occipital scalp overlies the upper cervical nuchal soft tissues, where the trapezius and the nuchal ligament anchor along the median plane. Clear midline landmarks.
