Description

Oriented from an inferior perspective, the animation centers on the frontal pole of each cerebral hemisphere at the anterior end of the frontal lobe, just superior to the anterior cranial fossa. The orbital (inferior) surface of the frontal lobe comes into view with its medial gyrus rectus and the more lateral orbital gyri separated by the olfactory sulcus. As the sequence progresses, subtle rotation clarifies the midline relationship to the interhemispheric fissure and the way the frontal poles converge anterior to the optic chiasm region and basal forebrain. Key landmarks maintain consistent anterior to posterior and medial to lateral orientation throughout. For teaching neuroanatomy, the inferior frontal pole is where surface anatomy starts to line up with what learners later meet on skull base imaging and in operative corridors. An animated inferior sweep makes the orbital surface easier to parse than a single frame, separating true sulci from lighting artifacts and reinforcing how close the gyrus rectus and olfactory sulcus sit to the cribriform plate and olfactory bulbs and tracts. That proximity matters in anterior skull base trauma with post-traumatic anosmia, and in surgical approaches to olfactory groove and planum sphenoidale meningiomas where early orientation to the frontal pole and orbital gyri helps prevent dissection drifting laterally. Use this clip in gross anatomy labs, neuroanatomy lectures on cerebral lobes and basal surfaces, and as an orientation insert for neuroradiology content that introduces the inferior frontal lobe on axial and coronal CT or MRI. It also fits preoperative patient education or resident teaching for endoscopic endonasal and subfrontal corridors to the anterior cranial fossa. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
