Viewed from a posterior standpoint, an obese adult Black male stands in anatomical position with the head and neck aligned over the thorax and pelvis, allowing the posterior contour of the trunk to be read against the vertebral column. The nuchal region transitions into the upper back where the scapular outlines sit posterolaterally over the rib cage, while the spinous processes track in the midline from the cervical region through the thoracic kyphosis and into the lumbar lordosis. Inferiorly, the gluteal region broadens over the pelvis, with the thighs extending distally to the knees and calves; the upper limbs hang slightly abducted with the dorsal forearms and hands oriented toward the body.
