Description
Anterior body wall translucency reveals an adult female trunk with the thoracic cage framing the mediastinum, lungs occupying the right and left pleural cavities, and the heart seated centrally with its apex directed inferolaterally to the left. Superior to the diaphragm, the great vessels course from the cardiac base, while inferior to it the liver lies mainly in the right upper quadrant, the stomach and spleen sit to the left, and the small intestine occupies a largely central position with the colon forming a peripheral frame. Pelvic viscera are suggested in the midline inferiorly, where the uterus typically lies between urinary bladder anteriorly and rectum posteriorly, with adnexal structures lateral. Major arteries and veins are color-coded, and peripheral nerves trace alongside the vascular trunks into the shoulder and trunk musculature. Clear landmarks.
