Description
Framed on the lateral midfoot, the cuboid bone is shown from an anterior aspect with the plantar surface rolling into view to reveal the sulcus (groove) for the tendon of fibularis (peroneus) longus. The animation tracks the tendon’s course as it passes posterior to the lateral malleolus, crosses the plantar aspect of the cuboid, and turns medially toward its distal insertions, with the cuboid’s articular facets intermittently obscuring the channel. Spatial relationships stay clear: the groove lies plantar to the calcaneocuboid articular surface and lateral to the more medial tarsal elements, acting as a bony pulley as the tendon changes direction. That change in direction is the clinical point. Fibularis longus stabilizes the lateral column and supports the transverse arch, and friction at the cuboid sulcus can contribute to peroneal tendinopathy, tenosynovitis, or the spectrum of “cuboid syndrome” symptoms after inversion injuries or repetitive loading in runners and dancers.
