Description
Viewed in lateral profile, the female shoulder region is centered on the scapular girdle, with the clavicle spanning anteriorly to the sternum while the scapula lies posterolaterally against the thoracic wall. The glenohumeral joint sits lateral to the rib cage where the humeral head articulates with the glenoid cavity, deep to the deltoid contour. Superiorly, the acromion and coracoid processes form the osseous roof over the joint, with the subacromial space interposed between acromion and the supraspinatus tendon. Clear surface anatomy. This profile of the shoulder matters because most clinically relevant problems are failures of relationships, humeral head position relative to the glenoid, rotator cuff tendons beneath the acromion, and the scapula’s role as a moving base during elevation.
