Description
Profile view frames the inferior mental region of an adult Black female, with the chin highlighted to localize the pogonion at the most anterior point of the mandibular symphysis. The mental protuberance and overlying soft tissue pad project anteriorly from the mandibular body, inferior to the lower lip and labiomental fold and anterior to the submental region beneath the mandibular border. Superior to inferior, the viewer can orient from the vermilion of the lower lip to the chin prominence, then down toward the suprahyoid soft tissues of the neck; anterior to posterior, the chin contour transitions into the submandibular outline. Surgeons and injectors rely on this surface anatomy when planning augmentation, reduction, or contouring, because small changes at the pogonion and menton alter facial balance on profile more than most midface adjustments.
