Centered on the anterior thorax, the inframammary (submammary) region is defined by the inferior pole of each breast and the curving inframammary fold where glandular tissue transitions onto the chest wall. The fold lies inferior to the nipple areola complex and superficial to the inferior fibers of pectoralis major, running transversely with a slight inferolateral sweep toward the anterior axillary line. Medially, the contour approaches the parasternal region over the costal cartilages; laterally it blends toward the infrapectoral and axillary tail area. Blue surface markings highlight the submammary boundary on skin in a neutral standing pose, allowing clear left right comparison. Clinically, the inframammary fold is a fixed landmark used to plan incisions for breast augmentation, reduction mammoplasty, and implant exchange because it defines the lower limit of the breast footprint and the intended level of the new breast mound.
