Juxtallocortex occupies the border zone between allocortex and isocortex along the limbic and paralimbic cerebrum, where cortical cytoarchitecture shifts from a three-layer pattern toward a six-layer neocortical arrangement. In a fixed oblique cerebral perspective, the transitional belt is positioned adjacent to allocortical fields of the hippocampal formation and parahippocampal region, while blending laterally and dorsally into neighboring isocortical association cortex. Periallocortical and proisocortical territories are implied by the keywords, with the transition typically recognized around the entorhinal cortex and adjacent parahippocampal gyrus inferiorly, and along the cingulate gyrus on the medial surface superior to the corpus callosum.
