Description
Centered in the forefoot, the fourth toe (digitus pedis IV) appears lateral to the third toe and medial to the fifth, with its nail plate and dorsal soft tissues framing the underlying proximal, middle, and distal phalanges. Distally, the pulp of the toe and the hyponychium sit inferior to the free edge of the nail, while the interphalangeal creases mark the approximate levels of the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints. Medially, the hallux is referenced as the first digit, establishing standard numbering across the pedal digits.
