Anteriorly, the superficial and deep venous pathways of the adult male lower limb are traced from the pelvis to the dorsum of the foot. Proximally, the external iliac vein continues as the femoral vein inferior to the inguinal ligament, with the great saphenous vein running medially along the leg and thigh to join it at the saphenofemoral junction. Distally, dorsal venous channels of the foot feed the medial marginal vein into the great saphenous system, while deeper paired venae comitantes accompany the anterior tibial and posterior tibial arteries before converging toward the popliteal vein posterior to the knee and returning to the femoral course. Clinically, this view is the one you want for teaching surface anatomy and mapping venous reflux patterns, because it aligns the long axis of the great saphenous vein with reliable landmarks along the medial malleolus, medial tibial border, and femoral triangle. Varicose vein disease and chronic venous insufficiency often declare themselves along this superficial track, and the illustration supports discussions of incompetent perforators between superficial and deep systems. It also suits preprocedural planning for endovenous ablation, foam sclerotherapy, or surgical ligation and stripping at the saphenofemoral junction. Clear landmarks.
