A posterior viewpoint favors the dorsal extensor compartments, placing the snuffbox between the thumb extensors and the distal radius in anatomical position. Palpation of this foveola radialis is a standard bedside maneuver when scaphoid injury is suspected after a fall on an outstretched hand, and focal tenderness here often drives immobilization even when initial radiographs are normal. The same surface window also approximates the course of the radial artery as it traverses the snuffbox toward the deep palmar arch, a practical correlation for arterial cannulation planning and for avoiding vascular injury during dorsal wrist approaches.
