Anterior sectioning through the heart highlights the pars muscularis septi interventricularis as a thick, inferior wedge of myocardium separating the right and left ventricular cavities. Superior to it, the septum thins toward the membranous region near the atrioventricular junction, while the muscular septum itself continues apically to form the bulk of the septal wall. Relative to the right ventricle, this muscular component sits leftward and posteriorly, with its left ventricular surface forming part of the smooth interventricular septal contour. Thick muscle.
