Description
Presented in lateral profile, the female viscera are arranged in situ from the cranial cavity through the pelvis, with the brain and proximal spinal cord continuous with peripheral nerves that course inferiorly into the trunk and limbs. Red and blue vascular channels accompany this neuroanatomy, tracking along the neck into the thorax and abdomen where they arborize around the heart, lungs, and upper abdominal organs. Within the abdominopelvic cavity, the diaphragm separates thoracic from abdominal contents, while the liver sits superior to the stomach, the small intestine occupies a more central position, and the large intestine frames it posteriorly and inferiorly as the urinary bladder and reproductive organs lie most inferior and anterior in the pelvis.
