Description
Spanning the body in anterior anatomical position, the figure layers major thoracic and abdominopelvic viscera with superimposed vasculature, peripheral nerves, and selected lymphatic pathways. Superiorly, the lungs flank the mediastinum while the heart sits slightly left of midline, with the aortic arch and great vessels coursing superiorly toward the neck and laterally into the upper limbs. Inferior to the diaphragm, the liver occupies the right upper quadrant with the stomach and spleen to the left, coils of small intestine lie centrally, and the colon frames the abdomen; paired kidneys sit retroperitoneally with ureters descending to the urinary bladder, and the uterus with adnexa (ovaries and uterine tubes) is positioned midline in the pelvis, posterior to the bladder and anterior to the rectum. Color coding distinguishes arteries (red), veins (blue), and peripheral nerves (yellow), with green nodal chains suggesting axillary and inguinal lymph nodes and connecting vessels. A whole-body map.
