Periamygdaloid cortex occupies the medial aspect of the anterior temporal lobe, wrapping along the periphery of the amygdaloid complex at the rostral end of the parahippocampal region. Along the anteromedial margin, it lies adjacent to the uncus, with the piriform lobe (paleocortex) extending anteroinferiorly toward the limen insulae. Medially and slightly posteriorly, the transition toward entorhinal cortex and the anterior parahippocampal gyrus can be appreciated, placing this cortical field at the junction between olfactory-related paleocortex and the limbic medial temporal structures.
