Description
Presented in posterior anatomical orientation, the female trunk is opened to emphasize how the thoracic and abdominal viscera relate to the axial neurovascular pathways. The spinal cord lies centrally within the vertebral canal, with paired spinal nerves exiting through the intervertebral foramina and distributing laterally into the brachial and lumbosacral plexuses toward the upper and lower limbs. Running parallel to these neural elements, major vessels course vertically, with the thoracic aorta descending left of midline and the inferior vena cava ascending on the right, while segmental intercostal and lumbar vessels sweep laterally along the posterior thoracic wall and posterior abdominal wall. Color coding separates nerves from arteries and veins for fast reading. Posterior views like this matter when you need to teach, or plan around, the structures most at risk in dorsal approaches: nerve roots, dorsal rami, and the paravertebral sympathetic chain adjacent to the vertebral bodies.
