Its borders are formed superiorly and medially by the lateral edge of trapezius, inferiorly by the superior margin of latissimus dorsi, and laterally by the medial border of the scapula. Deep to the triangle, rhomboid major and the 6th to 7th intercostal spaces create a relatively unobstructed acoustic window over the posterior ribs and pleura.
