Description
Centered in an anterior, close-up portrait view, the highlighted cutaneous surface spans the forehead and upper eyelids, continues across the nasal dorsum and cheeks, and extends over the upper and lower lips to the mental region and chin. The overlay corresponds to the sensory territories of the trigeminal nerve (CN V), with the ophthalmic division (V1) superiorly, the maxillary division (V2) over the midface, and the mandibular division (V3) over the lower face. Boundaries fall along familiar landmarks, including the supraorbital region, infraorbital region, and mental region, and the distribution stays strictly on the face rather than the upper neck. Skin texture and surface anatomy remain visible beneath the color field. Mapping these dermatomes and peripheral nerve territories matters when you are localizing facial pain, numbness, or dysesthesia to a specific division of CN V. Trigeminal neuralgia most often follows V2 or V3, while herpes zoster ophthalmicus tracks V1 and raises immediate concern for corneal involvement when symptoms reach the tip of the nose (nasociliary branch, Hutchinson sign). It also supports procedural planning: supraorbital, infraorbital, and mental nerve blocks target predictable exit points at the supraorbital foramen or notch, infraorbital foramen, and mental foramen to achieve regional anesthesia for laceration repair, dermatologic excision, or dental and maxillofacial work. A clean teaching surface. Use this asset in neuroanatomy and head and neck anatomy courses, in dermatology and neurology lectures on trigeminal sensory loss, and in clinical education materials explaining nerve block sites or post-traumatic hypoesthesia after zygomaticomaxillary or mandibular fractures. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
