Ventral anatomy of the male arm is centered on the sulcus bicipitalis lateralis (lateral bicipital groove), the longitudinal depression bordering the biceps brachii as it runs from the proximal brachium toward the fossa cubitalis. Medially, the belly of biceps brachii forms one wall of the groove, while the lateral contour is shaped by brachialis deep to biceps and the brachioradialis as the forearm compartment comes into view distally. Inferiorly the groove blends into the cubital region, where the biceps tendon lies anterior to the elbow joint and begins to define the lateral margin of the cubital fossa. Clinically, this surface landmark matters when teaching or performing anterior elbow and distal arm assessment, because the lateral bicipital groove guides palpation toward the biceps tendon and the interval adjacent to brachioradialis where the radial pulse is often taken just proximal to the elbow. It also frames common surgical and examination corridors: the distal biceps tendon is evaluated here in suspected rupture (hook test, ecchymosis, loss of contour), and the lateral approach to the distal humerus and elbow exploits the plane between brachioradialis and brachialis to reduce risk to the median nerve and brachial artery medially.
