Description

Presented in a sectional cut through an adult male upper abdomen, the stomach is opened to expose the mucosal rugae spanning from the cardia and fundus superiorly to the pyloric antrum and canal inferiorly. The animation clarifies the concentric organization of the gastric wall, tracing mucosa and submucosa deep to the rugae, then the muscularis externa with its inner oblique, middle circular, and outer longitudinal layers, and finally the serosa. As the viewpoint progresses, the pylorus leads into the first part of the duodenum, and the proximal small intestine is introduced as jejunal and ileal loops occupying a more inferior, central abdominal position.
