Seen through the male thoracic cage, the lungs sit lateral to the mediastinum, their apices projecting superior to the first ribs and their bases resting on the diaphragm deep to the costal margins. Layer by layer, the animation reveals the visceral and parietal pleura, then the right lung with three lobes divided by horizontal and oblique fissures and the left lung with two lobes and a cardiac notch, each organized around a branching bronchial tree that tapers from main bronchi to segmental bronchi. At the hila, the pulmonary arteries course with the bronchi while the pulmonary veins run more anterior and inferior, and the relationship to the sternum anteriorly and vertebral column posteriorly remains clear as the ribs frame the field. Bony protection is explicit. Lung carcinoma is rarely an abstract diagnosis, and the spatial context matters when you are explaining where a mass can arise and how it spreads.
