Description
Framed as an X-ray style radiographic animation, the right upper quadrant centers on the gallbladder tucked on the visceral (inferior) surface of the liver, with the fundus projecting anteriorly and inferiorly and the neck tapering medially into the cystic duct. Radiopaque gallstones appear as discrete calcified foci within the gallbladder lumen, while the animation also cues mural calcification consistent with a porcelain gallbladder, outlining the gallbladder wall as a curvilinear density. As the sequence advances, contrast between soft tissue shadowing and calcified structures is adjusted to mimic typical plain-film visibility, keeping the biliary anatomy oriented relative to the adjacent hepatic parenchyma and proximal extrahepatic ducts. Stone burden becomes the visual emphasis. Radiographic correlation matters because most cholesterol stones are radiolucent, so when you do see calcified stones on X-ray it changes the differential and often indicates mixed or pigment stones, chronic inflammation, or associated gallbladder wall calcification. Porcelain gallbladder remains a surgical planning flag, given its association with chronic cholecystitis and its debated but real link to gallbladder carcinoma, and the animation clarifies how wall calcification can be mistaken for clustered calculi without a sense of depth and edge definition. Sequential grading of opacity also helps explain why a normal-appearing plain film cannot exclude cholelithiasis, even in a classic biliary colic presentation.
