Superior and anterior to the stomach, the liver occupies the right hypochondrium and epigastrium, its inferior margin framing the gallbladder, while the pancreas lies secondarily retroperitoneal, transverse across the posterior abdominal wall with its head nested in the C loop of the duodenum and its tail extending toward the splenic hilum.
