Sweeping through the female abdominopelvic cavity, the animation lays out the gastrointestinal tract from the cervical esophagus descending through the esophageal hiatus to the stomach in the left upper quadrant, then onward to the duodenum and looping jejunum and ileum suspended by mesentery. Superior and anterior to the stomach, the liver occupies the right upper quadrant with the gallbladder on its inferior surface, while the pancreas sits secondarily retroperitoneal, extending transversely from the duodenal C-loop toward the splenic hilum. The large intestine frames the small bowel, with the cecum in the right iliac fossa, ascending colon rising to the hepatic flexure, transverse colon crossing anterior to the pancreas, descending colon to the sigmoid, and rectum coursing inferiorly into the pelvis. Orientation is clear. Clinical teaching benefits from seeing these spatial relationships change as the sequence progresses: retroperitoneal fixation of the duodenum and pancreas contrasts with the mobile intraperitoneal loops of small bowel, and the colon’s flexures become obvious as it arches beneath the diaphragm.
