Description
Radiographic-style silhouettes map the male upper and lower gastrointestinal tract from the distal esophagus into the stomach, then onward through the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) to the large intestine, including cecum, ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid colon, and rectum. The liver occupies the right upper quadrant, lying superior and lateral to the stomach, while the pancreas sits retroperitoneally, posterior to the stomach and extending transversely toward the splenic hilum. Sequential emphasis shifts between organs, clarifying how the gallbladder rests on the visceral surface of the liver and how the duodenal C-loop relates to the pancreatic head. Orientation stays in anatomical position. Clinical interpretation often hinges on these spatial relationships: epigastric pain radiating to the back tracks neatly to the pancreas, and right upper quadrant tenderness aligns with the hepatic and gallbladder silhouette in acute cholecystitis. Motion in the animation helps you follow continuity of the alimentary tract, a point that can be hard to teach with isolated plates, and it reinforces the transition points where obstruction or volvulus most commonly presents (pylorus, duodenojejunal flexure, ileocecal junction, sigmoid colon).
