Description

Beginning with an x-ray style render of the anterior neck, the animation brings the female larynx into focus from the hyoid bone superiorly to the cricoid cartilage and proximal tracheal rings inferiorly. The thyroid cartilage sits anterior to the laryngeal lumen, while the epiglottis rises posterior to the tongue base and hyoepiglottic region, hinging over the laryngeal inlet as the sequence advances. Within the airway, the supraglottis transitions to the glottis where the true vocal folds form the rima glottidis, then down to the subglottis framed by the cricoid arch. External landmarks track with the internal structures, including the thyroid notch region and the contour of the cricothyroid interval. Radiographic styling makes the cartilaginous framework and air column relationships easy to teach in the same visual language clinicians see on fluoroscopy, lateral neck radiographs, and airway evaluation in the ED.
