Description

Rotating into a flexed position, the knee joint centers on the distal femur as the medial and lateral femoral condyles roll and glide against the tibial plateau. Anteriorly, the patella tracks inferiorly within the femoral trochlea while the patellar tendon (ligamentum patellae) maintains its line toward the tibial tuberosity. Medial and lateral joint lines frame the tibiofemoral articulation, with the synovial cavity and capsular reflections implied around the margins. Motion is the point. Flexion is where tibiofemoral kinematics become easiest to teach and easiest to misread in a static frame.
