Description
Beginning at the occipital region and descending to the gluteal fold, the animation traces the major posterior muscles of an adult male in anatomical position, arranged around the midline spinous processes and the paired scapulae. Trapezius spans from the superior nuchal line and ligamentum nuchae to the lateral clavicle, acromion, and scapular spine, while latissimus dorsi sweeps inferolaterally from the lower thoracic spinous processes, thoracolumbar fascia, and iliac crest toward the proximal humerus. As the sequence continues inferiorly, the posterior cervical and scapular stabilizers (levator scapulae and rhomboid major and minor) give way to the paraspinal columns of erector spinae lying deep and medial, then to the broad gluteus maximus over the posterior ilium, sacrum, and coccyx with gluteus medius more superior and lateral. Layered motion makes relationships that are hard to teach in stills feel obvious, especially how superficial sheets like trapezius and latissimus dorsi obscure deeper lines of force along the medial border of the scapula and the lumbar fascia. That matters clinically. Strain patterns and trigger points in the upper trapezius and thoracolumbar erector spinae often refer pain to the neck, interscapular region, or low back, and scapular dyskinesis becomes easier to explain when you can track rhomboids and lower trapezius relative to scapular position across the posterior thorax. Brief isolation of the gluteal region also supports safe planning for intramuscular injection by keeping attention on the superolateral quadrant, away from the sciatic nerve’s course deep to gluteus maximus.
