Description
Anterior torso anatomy is rendered through a semi-transparent Black adult female figure, isolating the oesophagus and stomach in situ. The oesophagus descends in the midline from the cervical region through the thorax, traverses the diaphragm at the oesophageal hiatus, and enters the stomach at the cardia just left of the midline. The gastric fundus lies superior and leftward beneath the left hemidiaphragm, while the body curves inferomedially toward the pyloric antrum and pylorus, which sit more rightward and inferior before continuing as the proximal duodenum. Clinical teaching often hinges on these surface and internal relationships: the gastro-oesophageal junction at the cardia is the anatomic site implicated in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and Barrett metaplasia, and it is also a key landmark for upper endoscopy reporting. The superior position of the fundus under the diaphragm explains typical locations of gastric air on upright radiographs and helps learners map diaphragmatic irritation and referred pain patterns. Clear midline descent of the oesophagus also supports discussions of hiatus hernia mechanisms and why dysphagia localises poorly without imaging or endoscopy. Use this artwork in pre-clinical gastrointestinal anatomy modules, patient education on reflux and peptic symptoms, and as a clean figure for slide decks on endoscopic landmarks, bariatric counselling, or general abdominal organ orientation. It also fits medical publishing needs where inclusive representation of a Black woman is appropriate without sacrificing anatomical fidelity. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
