Description
Centered on the uterine fundus, the illustration isolates a rounded leiomyoma (myoma) embedded within the myometrium, with the endometrium shown deep to the muscular wall and the serosal surface superficial to it. Laterally, the uterine cornua lead toward the proximal fallopian tubes, orienting the lesion in the superior uterine body rather than the lower uterine segment or cervix. Branching uterine vessels course within the uterine wall, consistent with arcuate and radial artery pathways that skirt and penetrate the myometrium adjacent to the mass. Fundal fibroids matter because their relationship to the endometrial cavity and tubal ostia often predicts symptoms and management: a lesion expanding medially toward the cavity can drive heavy menstrual bleeding and subfertility, while one bulging outward can distort uterine contour and complicate laparoscopic port placement or uterine manipulation.
