Description
Dorsally oriented over the midfoot, the dorsal cuneonavicular ligament spans from the superior (dorsal) surface of the navicular to the dorsal aspects of the medial, intermediate, and lateral cuneiform bones, bridging the cuneonavicular components of the transverse tarsal region. Short, flat fiber bundles cross the dorsal joint line, lying deep to the expected course of the extensor hallucis longus and extensor digitorum longus tendons and superficial to the articular cartilage of the naviculocuneiform articulations. Nearby bony landmarks logically visible in a skeletal rendering include the talar head proximoposterior to the navicular, the cuboid lateral to the lateral cuneiform, and the bases of the metatarsals distally.
