Description

Oriented frontally in anatomical position, the vermiform appendix projects inferiorly from the cecum in the right lower quadrant, with lymphatic vessels running along the appendiceal wall and within the mesoappendix. Small lymph nodes punctuate these channels as they course proximally toward the ileocecal region, where drainage converges along the cecal and ileocolic vascular pedicles. Blue-caliber vessels track in parallel, reflecting the close relationship between lymphatics and the regional venous drainage, while yellow fat outlines the mesenteric folds that carry these structures. Appendiceal lymphatic drainage matters because it predicts how infection and tumor spread beyond the lumen, not just where pain localizes.
