Description
Arising from the mandibular alveolar process, the highlighted mandibular canine (cuspid) sits anterior to the first premolar and posterior to the lateral incisor, its crown angled slightly labially in a true lateral view. The cervical third displays the labial height of contour at the cemento-enamel junction, while the incisal third narrows toward a single cusp tip positioned superior to the cingulum on the lingual surface. Within the transparent mandible, the canine root tracks inferiorly and slightly posteriorly toward the body of the mandible, longer and more conical than adjacent incisor roots. Contact areas fall mesially near the incisal third and distally closer to the junction of incisal and middle thirds. A reliable landmark.
