Seen in lateral profile, the scapula is oriented with the glenoid cavity facing laterally to receive the humeral head, forming the glenohumeral joint. Superior and anterior to the glenoid, the coracoid process projects like a hook, while the acromion extends posteriorly and superiorly to overhang the joint space.
