Description
Running anterior to the upper lip, the superior labial vein courses within the labial tissues deep to orbicularis oris and superficial to the maxillary alveolar process, collecting small venules from the vermilion and philtrum region. Laterally it communicates with tributaries of the facial vein near the nasolabial fold, while medially it approaches the midline to anastomose across the upper lip. Surrounding context in this lateral head and neck model logically includes the facial vein along the anteromedial cheek, angular vein near the medial canthus, and adjacent arterial counterparts shown in red. Orientation is clear. Superior lies toward the nasal aperture, inferior toward the oral fissure. For clinicians, the superior labial vein matters because it sits in the same corridor used for upper lip local anesthetic blocks, filler placement, and mucosal incision during cleft lip and other reconstructive work, where venous injury can drive brisk bruising and postoperative hematoma.
