Description
Seen in lateral profile within a sagittal hemisection, the superior cerebellar vein courses along the superior surface of the cerebellar hemisphere, just inferior to the tentorium cerebelli and posterior to the midbrain. Superiorly and anteriorly, the vein’s trajectory relates to the quadrigeminal cistern and the superior cerebellar peduncle, while medially it approaches the vermis and the region where the vein typically drains toward the straight sinus via the vein of Galen complex. Posteriorly, the occipital lobe and calvarial contour frame the supratentorial compartment. Blue venous channels contrast against surrounding neural tissue. Clear landmarks. Venous anatomy around the tentorial edge matters when you are planning or interpreting posterior fossa approaches, because bridging veins from the superior cerebellar surface can be injured during supracerebellar infratentorial exposure to pineal and tectal lesions.
