Description
Posterior to the knee joint, the distal femur and proximal tibia frame the intercondylar region while the posterior capsule forms the soft tissue backdrop. A discrete middle genicular nerve courses toward the midline of the capsule, entering it near the central posterior aspect rather than skirting along the femoral condyles like the superior and inferior genicular branches. Adjacent articular relationships implied in this view include the posterior femoral condyles superiorly, the posterior tibial plateau inferiorly, and the popliteal fossa superficial to the capsule.
